Impetus Donates to Butterwick Hospice

Impetus Donates to Butterwick Hospice

Two vital North East charities receive an important cash boost

The Butterwick Hospice in Stockton and the Holistic Cancer Care Centre at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough are celebrating after receiving £1,000 each from Impetus, a Teesside-based company which specialises in waste management and renewable energy solutions.

The donations were awarded to both charities during the North East Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner in Newcastle. The event was attended by over 300 members of the region’s business community, including Sir Alistair Graham, former chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and the evening’s keynote speaker.

Impetus was the official sponsor of the 2009 Annual Chamber Dinner and Nigel Flintoft explains why the company chose to use the opportunity to support both charities.

Representing Impetus, Nigel said: “The North East is home to a strong business community and also home to some very deserving charities doing great work in our local communities. As the headline sponsor for the dinner, we wanted to use the occasion to encourage the business community to get behind our local charities and help alleviate the negative impact the recession has had on charitable funding.

“Both beneficiaries are local to us on Teesside, therefore we know how tirelessly Butterwick Hospice and the Holistic Cancer Care Centre work to provide excellent patient and respite care to individuals and families from all over the North East, which is why it was important to us to help ensure they receive the level of donations necessary to maintain the crucial services they provide, especially in these difficult economic times.”

The money will be used to help Butterwick Hospice provide care for over 200 patients and their families at its purpose built hospices in Stockton-on-Tees and Bishop Auckland, where it also provides services throughout the North Tees and Durham Dales.

Anne Cooling, Head of Corporate Development at Butterwick Hospice, welcomed the donation, she said:”Our thanks go to Ian Hunter, Richard Lord and Nigel Flintoft from Impetus. This kind donation will help us to continue to provide end of life care services to the whole of the Stockton Borough.”

The Holistic Cancer Care Centre at the James Cook University Hospital provides a range of supportive therapies to assist cancer patients through surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.   The donation from Impetus will go towards paying for trained practitioners to continue providing therapies free of charge to cancer patients and their main carer.

Lynne Gray, deputy manager of the Holistic Cancer Care Centre received the donation on behalf of the Centre, she said: “Thank you very much indeed to Impetus for this wonderful donation which will enable the Centre to continue to provide complementary therapies, support and advice to cancer patients and their main carers free of charge”.
