A Norton father, who lost his wife to bowel cancer two years ago, has been made the Butterwick Hospice’s second only special Ambassador.
Martin Griffiths of Forest Park, whose wife Judy died at the Stockton hospice in April 2009 has raised more than £25,000 for the Butterwick since her death.
Judy died the day after her 35th birthday, leaving Martin and their five month old son. Martin was the guest speaker at the Butterwick Breakfast Meeting last week and talked about his positive experience of the hospice and how it had helped him cope with his loss.
He told guests: ‘Judy was a very positive person and her loss was devastating. The people at the hospice have really helped me. I come back regularly and am always made to feel very welcome – although I think they are a bit disappointed if I don’t bring Samuel with me.’
He was presented with his Ambassador’s award by the Chief Executive of Butterwick Hospice Care, Graham Leggatt-Chidgey.
He said: ‘Martin has given us tremendous support since Judy died. He not only has raised much appreciated funds, but is an inspirational speaker and father to young Samuel.
‘We are very pleased to present him with what is only the second Ambassador award which is reserved for very special supporters of the hospice.’
